Research

The Fund sponsors research to identify the steps needed to advance the initiatives of
Advance Northeast Ohio. The Fund uses the research to guide regional initiatives and inform the development and implementation of regional economic competitiveness initiatives.

Economic research plays an essential role in guiding the work of the Fund and it is equally important as our grantmaking and civic engagement efforts to strengthen the region's economic competitiveness. To assist the region in understanding the complex economy of Northeast Ohio the Fund maintains a bibliography of research done in the region. Research projects supported by the Fund include:

Dashboard of Economic Indicators
The Dashboard of Economic Indicators research answers two important questions:
 

  • How is Northeast Ohio’s economy performing compared to other U.S. regions?
  • What are the common characteristics of high-growth regions?

Barometer of Economic Attitudes
The Fund supports the Barometer of Economic Attitudes, a survey designed to measure the public’s perception of the region’s general economic progress, as well as opinions on regionalism and economic development initiatives. 


Bio-Agriculture Research Study
The Fund has contributed $250,000 to explore ways to expand the agricultural industry in Northeast Ohio. The study will be conducted by the Ohio Agriculture Research and Development Center (OARDC). The OARDC will will work with agricultural interests from across Northeast Ohio to identify opportunities to grow the region’s $8.2 billion agricultural industry, including locally grown foods and renewable energy crops. Municipal Revenue Sharing Study
T
he Fund has contributed $340,000 to an examination of the feasibility of tax revenue sharing and other regional collaborations that would increase efficiency, stimulate economic development and limit sprawl. The Northeast Ohio Mayor and City Managers Association oversees the study and members of the association have contributed more than $50,000 to the study. Cost of Local Government Study

The Fund contributed $100,000 to help pay for a comprehensive examination of the cost of local government in Northeast Ohio. More information about the study and access to the online database that includes cost and revenue data for the region's local governments is available here. Other contributors to the study were the Greater Cleveland Partnership, the Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber, and the Samuel H. and Maria Miller Foundation.

Wind Energy Feasibility Study
The Fund contributed $200,000 to a study of the feasibility of placing wind turbines in Lake Erie. The study is being led by Cuyahoga County Energy Development Task Force.
RESEARCH
