The Fund engages the public and leaders from the private, civic, labor, education, government and other sectors to advance and accelerate the initiatives of Advance Northeast Ohio.
Before the region united behind the Advance Northeast Ohio action plan, the Fund sponsored a large, public engagement exercise called Voices & Choices. The 18-month effort engaged more than 20,000 Northeast Ohio residents to help establish the region’s economic priorities. Advance Northeast Ohio incorporates the priorities identified by the residents that participated in Voices & Choices.
Implementing the initiatives of the region's action plan is a key civic engagement effort of the Fund. While the action plan is a joint effort of many partner organizations throughout the region, the Fund plays a key role in convening the partners and accelerating the implementation of the initiatives under the plan.
The Fund contributed $120,000 to Education Works, an initiative that aims to engage a broad group of community leaders in education, policy and business to articulate a new standard for the region’s children – regardless of race, gender, income, or geographic location – based on a 21st century skills curriculum. These community leaders will then create a detailed action plan to significantly boost academic achievement and educational attainment across the entire region. Other participants in Education Works are the Jennings, Cleveland and George Gund foundations.
